This is my first experience with any products from Storm Drones, and I was quite impressed.  The new Spear motor is well made, tolerances are tight, machining looks excellent, and the motor is very smooth.  The motor has wide but thin arc magnets and a very tight air gap between the magnets and the stators. The bell has an integrated prop adapter and a 3mm internal steel shaft.  It uses the standard C-clip as well.  The biggest surprise here is the weight.  This is one insanely light motor. With short wires it weighs under 25g, making it one of the lightest motors ever to cross my bench.  This puts it on par with the Lumenier RX2205, and the RCX H2205 and SE2205 motors in terms of weight, and lighter even than the ZMXv2 2205 motors. Overall, I was surprised and impressed by this motor, and hope to see more from Storm Drones soon.

Now on to the bench results!

Test Results

This motor is a very solid mid-range performer.  It falls just short of the current batch of N52 thrust kings, but only by about 50-70g across the range of props. Another interesting thing here is that the tight air gap, and wide arc magnets are increasing torque production enough to significantly reduce response times. This fact combined with the very light weight will give this motor a very snappy response in the air.  Current is on par with the other motors in the same class, drawing close to 26A under static load on the 5x4x3 and just over 30A on the 6x4.  This motor actually really excelled on the heavier props, almost breaking 1400g on the KingKong 6x4 at peak, and sustaining right at1350g. That can partially be explained by the fairly low KV, measuring in at only 2270kv on my bench test.  Again, while this motor isn't at the very top of the charts, the perfromance for the weight is very respectable.  Add to that the excellent response times, and this is a fantastic all around motor.
