This light weight, low cost variant in their new lineup was sent over by Gemfan for testing.  I also have a 2306 2200kv and an 1806 2300kv in this series to test.

Summary

This is a very different motor from the RT series.  I wasn't expecting this motor so when I opened the box I was a bit surprised.  Even though this is designed to be a less expensive lower performance motor than the high end RT motors, I was still impressed by the build quality.  Machining was high quality, and the bearings felt smooth with no roughspots or notches.  The windings look good.  The airgap is a not so tight as the high end motors and the magnets are definitely weaker and not as thick. My biggest complaint with these is the very short propeller shaft an bullet conenctor.  They also seem to be coming in counter rotating sets. Both of these I think are mistakes. Taking all that into account the overall quality of this motor is still suprisingly high.

Now on to the bench results!

Test Results

During testing I realized exactly how far we've come in the last 6 months.  The results here aren't amazing given the recent motors I've been testing, but I had a thought while I was testing to check it against some of the motors from a few months ago, and believe it or not it smokes them all! This motor is using N48SH magnets, which still have a significant advantage against the N45SH of the Cobra 2300kv, DYS MR Series, ZMXv1 motors. Given that, the results suddenly become much more acceptible, especially if they can keep the cost down. I believe final retail price isn't officially set, but these are a motor to keep an eye on for future budget builds.
