This is the high KV brother of the 2207 2400kv motor that was already on the bench, a variant of the Returner R3 line custom made for Multicopter Builders, who sent it over for testing.

Multicopter Builders 2207 2500kv

Tested KV:2550kv
Weight:31g
Stator W:22mm
Stator H:7mm
The light weight and solid heritage of these motors makes this higher KV version of the Multicopter Builder's 2207 motor quite interesting.  The R3 line was the standard for quite some time in the 2206 space, so seeing these ultra-light 2207s is a great step.  There's really nothing new here over what was already said about the 2207 2400kv, the only difference being the number of turns in the windings.  Everything else looks great, with no vertical play and smooth turning thanks to the EZO bearings used in these.  Nothing to complain about here!

I was interested to see how the higher KV here would impact the performance on this motor vs. the 2400kv variant.  This definitely bumps up the thrust a good bit, especially on the lighter props, but even showing significant gains on the heavier props.  This guy easily cleared 1500g on most of the heavier 5" props which is impressive for a higher KV motor, and it was still able to maintain quite comparable response curves to the lower KV motors.  The higher KV and higher power comes at the cost of amp draw though, and this motor is definitely drawing down the amps.  Unloaded in flight this guy will tame down a good deal, but it's still one that will really push the batteries, especially if you spend a good deal of time in the upper throttle registers. At equivalent RPMs though it will consume a tad less draw for the same output compared to most of the 2206 class motors on the market thanks to the larger stator size and decreased prop loading, it just has the capacity for a much higher top end, so watch how you use that throttle!  Overall very strong results for this motor especially given its weight class.  There are a number of other 2207 higher KV motors on the market that have put out some insane numbers, but they are 4-5g heavier per motor, and have even higher current draw, so when weight and voltage sag is accounted for, this motor becomes a very attractive offering.
